Training Checklist

It may help you to make decisions about the training you give your PA by making a checklist.

You need to:
  • Decide what are your needs and expectations

  • Decide what skills your PAs need to meet these needs and expectations

  • Assess what skills, experience and knowledge your PAs already have

  • Decide what your PAs need to learn to enable them to perform their role.
For example If the training is online does your PA have the adequate IT skills to enable them to do training?

  • Does your PA have the abilities and the confidence to undertake the training you are proposing?

  • Find out what development and skills your PAs are hoping to gain while being employed by you

  • Decide if you want your PAs achievements recognised through a qualification
Once you have made these decisions you will need to:
  • Decide what is necessary training and what is desirable training

  • Determine how much of the training you can carry out yourself

  • Decide what type of training you prefer eg On-line, classroom style, training with a qualification, self-training by you

  • Look at availability and costs of training

  • See if there are training packages available to help you if you decide to provide the training yourself

  • Find out if there is funding available towards the training.
Having a good relationship with your Personal Assistants and a good training and development plan is a key to being a good employer.
