What To Do When Training Goes Wrong

If you have a problem with the training provided by a training provider you will need to refer to the complaints procedure.  You may want to speak to the trainer to find out what went wrong.

If you feel that the training was inadequate you may want to report the training provider to the appropriate regulatory body.

If the problem with the training is in relation to your PA for instance they refuse to attend or fail the course you may need to look at your own policies and procedures before you decide what to do.  It should be made clear at the recruitment stage that you expect your PA to take up relevant training to enable them to perform their role in the way you expect it to be performed.

You may need to discipline a worker who fails to attend training but you should discuss the situation further to find out why they didn't attend or why they think they failed.

There may be genuine reasons why the training was not a success, for instance
  • Was the training at too high a level for your PA?

  • If the training was online training did your PA have the adequate IT skills to enable them to do the training?

  • Did your PA have the abilitiy or the confidence to undertake the training you arranged for them?
A training and development plan and regular reviews should help you to understand the level of training your PA is confident with and is able to achieve.
